Equal to Hardangerfjord in Northern Europe

Senkaku Bay: one of Sado's most scenic spots

Rivaling Norway's iconic Hardangerfjord, often praised as the world's best, this area is called Senkakuwan (Senkaku Bay), and includes five bays stretching about three kilometers from Himezu to Kita-ebisu. These two beautiful coastlines, one in the East and one in the West, mirror each other. The surrounding area was designated as a Marine Park in 1971, and selected as one of Japan's Best 100 Shores in 1996.

Yusenkyo Bridge aka Machiko Bridge

A scene involving the female lead, Machiko, from the Shochiku Studios movie "Kimi no Na Wa" (What is Your Name?), made this suspension bridge very famous. Ageshima Island, on the other side of the bridge, houses Ageshima Observation Deck. You can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view over Senkaku Bay from there, as well as Iwayuri lilies and Amur daylilies in bloom from late May until mid-June.

Filming location of the 1953 Japanese film "Kimi no Na Wa."

The movie "Kimi no Na Wa" (What is Your Name?), written by Kazuo Kikuta, was filmed here in 1953, gaining widespread recognition for Senkaku Bay. Photos taken during the filming are on display on the second floor of the aquarium.
